“It was in a University Halls Rugby Competition at Coombe Dingle that certain Llamas initially demonstrated their competitive talents to one another. Playing together for the first time those individuals took the Churchill Hall Rugby XV to the final of that competition.
During the cold winter months of 2004, some friends then sat together in dark Churchill rooms and a new indoor sport evolved called Choke, which they soon became masters at.
As the summer came around other talents presented themselves, initially in the form of keepy-uppies but also in friendly football matches on Churchill’s Green. Thereafter the game of Kings was introduced to the Green releasing further breath-taking performances. The Bristol Half Marathon was added to the many Llamas sporting achievements of that year and it was clear that amongst our group of friends existed the most important ingredient of any successful sports team.
By the time the 2004 winter season was under way a football team had been assembled, under the guise of The Gunners, and was competing in the University League. That team would have two successful seasons on the Bristol Downs. Also during the 2004/2005 winter, a Rugby team was created for a one off University Rugby Tournament and this team first utilised the name The Llamas. That name then spread across to a cricket team that first came together for a competitive friendly match during the summer of 2006 in Somerset. This wondering cricket team has continued to increase its number and quality of fixtures each year collecting victories as it goes. The football team took on the FIFA certified London League during the winter of 2008/2009 and has continued to dominate this league during the 2009/2010 season.
Since its transfer to London the football team has also used The Llamas as its name. As The Llamas Football and Cricket teams have evolved outside of Bristol University’s scaffolding new people have become part of the clubs spirit and with this growth we have become stronger.
Throughout the entire history of The Llamas Sports Club individuals have relentlessly continued to harness their will and demonstrate their physical ability; on the pitches, in fields on bikes, along roads and walls. Moreover every act has been supported by our exemplary and inspiring collection of supporters who guarantee that every event is appreciated and celebrated.”
The above words came to His Spectacularness The Dalai Llama in a dream, and were plastered in spit on the walls of his dungeon. No translation has yet been possible.
